September is Fall Prevention Awareness Month

Falls are one of the leading causes of injury among older adults—but the good news is that many falls can be prevented. By taking simple steps at home, you can greatly reduce the risk and help your loved ones feel safe, independent, and confident.

Simple Tips to Stay Safe at Home

  • Clear Pathways – Remove clutter, cords, and loose rugs from walking areas.

  • Good Lighting – Keep hallways, stairs, and entrances well lit to prevent tripping.

  • Use Assistive Devices – Don’t hesitate to use canes, walkers, or grab bars for extra support.

  • Stay Active – Gentle movement such as walking or stretching can improve balance and strength.

  • Wear Proper Footwear – Choose shoes with non-slip soles instead of slippers or socks.

These small changes can make a big difference in preventing falls and supporting overall well-being.

Be Proactive

At Givens Home First, we know how important it is for older adults to feel secure at home. Our Aging in Place Program, led by Julie Moses, COTA and CAPS, offers in-home safety consultations and home modification recommendations to help reduce fall risks.

To schedule a consultation, contact Julie at (828) 575-1078.

Together, we can create safe, supportive environments that allow older adults to continue living life to the fullest.
