Embracing the Heat: Staying Safe and Active This Summer

Hello Givens Home First Community!

As the summer heat continues, it’s important to stay safe while enjoying all that this vibrant season has to offer. Despite the rain we’ve been receiving, those hot and humid days can still take a toll. At Givens Home First, we’re committed to ensuring our residents and their loved ones have the resources they need to stay healthy, happy, and active. Here are some tips and updates to help you make the most of August!

Beat the Heat: Stay Cool and Hydrated

  • Hydrate Often: Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Aim for at least 8 glasses to keep your body cool and functioning properly.
  • Dress Light: Wear lightweight, breathable clothing to help regulate your body temperature.
  • Limit Sun Exposure: Try to stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day (10 AM to 4 PM). If you need to go outside, consider wearing a hat and applying sunscreen.

Stay Active: Enjoy Summer Safely

  • Morning and Evening Walks: Take advantage of cooler times of the day for outdoor activities. Remember our Home Care team can accompany you on walks – reach out if you’d like to learn more!
  • Indoor Exercises: Explore indoor activities like chair yoga, stretching, or light strength training.

Home Safety: Tips for a Comfortable Summer

  • Keep Your Home Cool: Use fans, close blinds during the day, and consider air conditioning to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.
  • Check Your Medications: Some medications can increase sensitivity to heat. Consult with your Community Nurse, Kimberly Bailey, if you have any concerns.
