Resilience in the Face of Hurricane Helene

Home First Waving

The past few weeks have tested us in unimaginable ways. In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, our Western North Carolina community was deeply impacted—facing power outages, water shortages, limited resources, and widespread disruption. Yet, through it all, I’ve witnessed something truly remarkable: the unwavering dedication and compassion of the Givens Home First team and every member of Givens Communities.

Even during the blackout—when there was no electricity, water, or cell service—our caregivers didn’t miss a beat. Despite these overwhelming challenges, we remained connected and resilient. Day after day, the Home First team showed up, providing essential care to our residents. From ensuring medications were administered, delivering water, assisting with meals, and even handling evening tuck-ins without lights, their efforts were nothing short of heroic. I’m incredibly grateful to report that all 53 of our Home First team members and all residents across Givens Communities are safe.

While the road to recovery continues, we remain fully committed to supporting our community every step of the way. Whether it’s conducting health checks, integrating WCU nursing students into clinical care, or delivering much-needed supplies, the Home First team has gone above and beyond.

We take pride in the work we do every day—helping residents age safely at home with the care and support they need, whether during a crisis or in everyday life. Our Life Plan Community Nurse, Home Care team, and Aging in Place leaders are here to offer solutions, answer questions, and continue serving you.
