June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month

Be proactive and practice good brain health! Here are some resources that our Life Plan Community Nurse would like to share:

  • Read about ten healthy brain habits by clicking here.
  • Lean about dementia by clicking here.
  • Need to talk to someone about your loved one or friend so you can feel more confident when caring for them or to be understanding of their challenges? Call the Alzheimer’s 24/7 hotline: 800-272-3900. The call is free, and you will speak with a master’s-level dementia expert. The help line is for around-the-clock support. If you need a diagnosis, please seek out your physician. Click on this link to learn what to expect when you call.
  • Join the movement! Become a Dementia Friend. We have several trained Dementia Champions across Givens Communities that are available to meet one-to-one, attend resident meetings, or event present to interest groups. The Dementia Friends Informational Session is 60 minutes long and at the end, all participants will receive a forget-me-not pin so you can easily recognize other Dementia Friends! You can email the team at [email protected] or call 828-575-1132 and ask for the Community Nurse.

Check out https://givenshomefirst.org/news/ and look for our next Learn First Seminar Series event. We will be addressing the topic of dementia on July 8 at Highland Farms and again on July 12 at Estates.
