Autumn Cold & Flu Season

With children heading back to school, the high volume of travel, and the upcoming fall cold & flu season approaching, it is prudent to be aware of practicing excellent hand hygiene and self-monitoring for symptoms of COVID-19 if you are feeling unwell.

As the public health emergency of COVID-19 has ended, Givens is no longer providing complimentary tests for independent living residents.

Residents may obtain testing kits from most local pharmacies. Primary health care providers might offer testing (call their office to inquire,) and the State of North Carolina offers telemedicine.

A telemedicine provider can recommend treatment and send prescriptions for antiviral
pills to local pharmacies or even send via mail. We encourage everyone to make a telemedicine
appointment if they are COVID-19 positive and are experiencing mild-to-moderate symptoms or are at high risk for severe illness. Health insurance and an ID are not required.

Visit StarMed.Care/nc or call (704)941-6000 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily to schedule a phone or video telemedicine visit.

If positive for COVID-19, please begin isolating for five days and contact your Social Worker to
discuss support needs such as meal deliveries. Other needs can be met as well, and services can be
paused until you are off isolation.

Healing Hugs,
