In light of the recent challenges brought by Hurricane Helene, the resilience and strength of the Givens community have truly shone through. Givens Home First played a vital role in supporting individuals during the storm, providing everything from meal deliveries and medication pickups to wellness checks and pet care.
Now, Givens Home First is expanding its reach.
The Aging in Place program, led by Julie Moses, offers safety assessments and home modifications to help you stay safe, comfortable, and independent at home. For the first time, anyone living within a 90-minute round trip from Givens Estates can benefit from these services.
What sets this program apart is the expertise of two Certified Aging in Place Specialists, Julie and David. They are dedicated to enhancing home safety and offer personalized recommendations to meet unique needs. From selecting the right handrails to advising on backup power for devices and lighting, this team is dedicated to ensuring that every home is prepared for any situation.
Proactive Steps for Safety
“A goal without a plan is just a wish” – Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
- Emergency Essentials: Keep a printed list of medications, emergency contacts, and insurance information handy in case of future power or internet outages.
- Backup Power: Stock extra batteries and consider portable power banks for devices like C-PAP machines or wheelchairs. Givens Home First can recommend reliable options.
- Food Safety: An easy-to-use, mobility-friendly can opener (we have suggestions!) and a stockpile of non-perishable foods can come in handy.
- Engage with Home Care: Planning ahead can make all the difference. If you are a resident of Givens Estates or Givens Highland Farms, connecting with the Home Care program early on can help ensure you have the support you need before a crisis arises.
- Vial of Life: Consider using the Vial of Life program, which keeps essential medical information easily accessible in case of an emergency.
Givens Home First is now offering Safety Assessments to all residents and the broader community. This includes individuals from Givens Estates, Givens Highland Farms, Givens Gerber Park, Givens Great Laurels, Givens Choice members, and anyone within a 90-minute drive from Givens Estates.
